The Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) is amongst Africa’s largest international arts festivals. HIFA is organized in Harare every year since 1999 in last week of April or 1st week of May. The six day long festival revolves around five thematic areas: theatre, music, dance, fine art, and poetry.
Art lovers from around the world participate in this art festival. Keeping in view the large inflow of people certain airlines operate special economy flights to Harare to facilitate art lovers. The 14th edition of Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) 2013 will be arranged in Harare in first week of May 2013. Some of the performing artists are coming from South Africa, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Italy, Japan and the United States of America (US) amongst others. However, special guests of 2013 are Botswana’s famous Poet Mandisa Mabuthoe and jazz artist Punah Gabasiane.
Mabuthoe will be participating and performing in this esteemed festival for the first time and she appeared excited about it. “There will be artists from all over the world and I am going to use this opportunity to meet and mingle with these artists and exchange ideas and see what I can learn from them,” said Mabuthoe. Similarly, Jazz artist Punah Gabasiane could not hide her eagernessas well. Widely followed artist in Africa said that she feels privileged to be part of a highly recognized festival of the region.
Gabasiane is scheduled to perform on May 4, 2013 at 9pm-10pm. She appeared about her time slot of her performance and termed it as perfect. Both Mabuthoe and Punah Gabasiane are highly respected artists in African region with a huge fan base. Mabuthoe has already performed in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Australia on various occasions. She was part and parcel of Infinite Word Festival in Botswana as well. Punah Gabasiane is also one of Botswana’s highly rated jazz artists who have performed in many countries of African region and Canada as well.
